Sadegh Barirani

1923-Sadeg Barirani was born on March 23 in Bandar Anzali, Gulian.

1930-Studied elementary and high school in Bandar Anzali and Rasht.

1942-Is introduced to the technique of watercolor “pointillism, and oil painting, by Amir Houshang-Zarrin Kelk (Darvish) pupil of” Kamal-al-Molk” and is acquainted to mystic philosophy and the sect of “shahNematollah”.

1947-Arrives at Tehran as a teacher.

1948-Attends School of fine Arts, Tehran University.

1950-Joins the “Fighter Cock”(persian; Khorousse- jangui), formed by a group of young artists intending to break completely from the conservative traditional art; where he met one of the founders jalil Ziapour, a cubist painter.

1952-Receives B.A. from the School of Fine Art, Tehran University, Iran.

1953-Attends a year of classes in film, film-strip and photography, held by the audio-visual department of Cyracuse University of New York, in Tehran.

-Organizes and participates “Mehregun” collective art exhibition, Tehran, Iran.

1954Teacher of drawing and painting Behzad School of Art, Tehran, Iran.

1956-Participates in “Biennial of Venice”, Italy.

1957-Is appointed as the Art Director and head of Graphic Arts section, Fine Arts Administration, Tehran, Iran.

1958-Attends Indiana University, through a grant from the United States, International Cooperation Administration.

1959-M.S. in Audio- Visual education, Graphic Arts, Indiana University.

1960-Travels extensively throughout Europe, including: London, Paris, Munich, and Rome, observing works of art in museums and galleries, in quest to complete his research.

-Returns to Iran to become Head of the Graphic Arts Department, Ministry of Culture and Arts Tehran, Iran.

1973-Invited by Milton Glazer to the “International Design Conference” as a representative of the finest work done in modern graphic design, Aspen, Colorado.

-Travels to Paris and resides there for one year, continues work while living in “Cite International des Art”, Paris, France.
